Position: Program Manager

The National Democratic Training Committee offers free, interactive online and live training for Democratic candidates running for office. We aim to empower any Democrat who wants to be involved in local politics with the tools needed to be successful.

We believe that by working with candidates we can accomplish three goals: improve the performance of every Democrat up and down the ticket, elect more Democrats to office, and create a deeper bench of qualified candidates for higher office.

To accomplish these goals, NDTC is creating a long-term, scalable, recruitment, training, and placement program with an emphasis on empowering historically underrepresented communities to begin careers in Democratic politics.

This program consists of a blended online and live training schedule and includes ongoing and post-election professional development to help trainees build careers across election cycles. 

Job Description

NDTC is seeking a Program Manager (PM) to conceive, organize, promote and implement effective programmatic initiatives for our national training program for campaign staff. The ideal candidate understands the driving forces behind effective campaign organizing. The ideal candidate should be highly analytical and focused with keen insight into Democratic politics and its motivational forces. This job involves both short and long-term programs that inspire, educate and attract audiences from all walks of life.

This position works collaboratively with the full NDTC team to develop and ensure consistency of programming across all NDTC departments.

The PM will lead a full team to build the campaign staff training program. This includes both in-house team members,  earned media consultants, and rockstar interns. The PM also collaborates with the full NDTC team to make sure programming and recruitment efforts align with and drive organizational goals.


  • Manage a team with a diverse array of talents and responsibilities. This includes leading and evaluating projects and staff.

  • Lead the campaign staff training team to achieve NDTC organizational goals.

  • Be a key member of the NDTC leadership team.

  • Develop and manage operational budgets and processes.

  • Create and oversee a recruitment strategy that drives NDTC organizational goals.

  • Use data to measure success and make strategic changes in programmatic efforts

  • Work with strategic partners and state and local parties on collaborative recruitment and communications efforts.

  • Keep senior management informed with detailed and accurate reports and/or presentations

  • Develop an evaluation method to assess program strengths and identify areas for improvement.

Position Requirements:

  • Have at least 5-7 years of experience in program management within the political/electoral campaign space.

  • Have 2-5 years experience leading diverse teams.

  • Ability to analyze and interpret data to improve communications strategies.

  • Possess excellent writing skills.

  • Have experience working across departments or teams within an organization.

  • Have exceptional interpersonal communication skills.

  • Is well-organized, outcome focused, and has a sense of humor

  • Work well with deadlines and fast-paced environments.

  • Able to communicate effectively and build relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders, trainees, staff, and others.

This full-time position reports to the Director of Live Training and Political Partnerships and is located in downtown Chicago.

Application Process

Salary is commensurate with experience, with a range of $75,000 - $85,000 per year. NDTC offers a strong benefits package including health insurance with the employee premium paid-in-full by NDTC, a 10% employer match on contributions to 401(k), short and long-term disability and life insurance, as well as a flexible paid time off policy.
